Deadpool: Overexposed and Loving It!

deadpool Deadpool: Overexposed and Loving It!News struck home that our man, DP will be receiving a third monthly out in November! Deadpool Team-Up will pit Wade with a new Marvel character every month and will feature a slue of writing and artistic design. The first month will have Deadpool working alongside The Incredible Hercules with Hercules regular Fred van Lente writing. The series shows promise and Deadpool fans can uniformly agree that the series might be a favorite.
Deadpool’s second series however, Merc with a Mouth has had a rocky start with no clear way out. Victor Gischler’s series treads serious water in reproducing a mirrored copy of Daniel Way’s Deadpool but placed in a lightly humorous mission with art that seems right out of a Chuck Jones cartoon. If they don’t start playing a bit more serious than we could have the first cancelled Deadpool comic on our hands.

Daniel Way’s work with Mr. Wilson definitely inspires the most controversy of all the Deadpool titles. Way’s light romp but dark humor fits Deadpool well, but has no real story distinction. Most diehard DP fans are fervently against him and quote Joe Kelly’s work on developing the character with an intricate background and character depth. I however feel as if Way’s interpretation is a refreshing take on Mr. Wilson. I might be blasted in the circles I gather around, but all Deadpool diehard fans don’t have to love Joe Kelly’s work.  I respect the comics for giving a background but it wasn’t until Christopher Priest started to lighten up and have fun with Deadpool that I truly fell in love with the character.

Two Cents? Daniel Way’s series has the most potential…to piss off the straight-laced fanatics AND create an ever-expanding fan base. Merc with a Mouth needs to try harder to get its own Deadpool creative ideas and- let’s not forget who we’re dealing with- Deadpool comics need to be funny. I can only hold my breath and anticipate the kind of Deadpool comic I’ve always wanted- a comic that holds no bars and stays 100% out of Marvel continuity. If Deadpool wants to kill Wolverine and have numerous offspring with the old flame, Siryn then he should have it!…in his own continuity.
