Insert juvenile, gamer, gay joke here, I’ve heard it all. Many people find it funny to see my 6’2″ frame walk up, grab a joystick and pick Ibuki, Akari, Yuri, Mai, Chun-Li, or Asuka to fight with. They wonder why a big guy like myself isn’t running out Zangief, Marco Rodriquez or Paul Pheonix. They never ask but when they do I usually refer to the combo explanation for my choices. But in a sense the answer isn’t completely truthful being that I could easily pick Rufus, Benimaru, Law, or Gen to fulfill my combo fantasies. But there is another reason that I pick the girls – I’ve grown accustomed to it.Within the 3GK crew, whenever we try a new fighting game we automatically know who the other guys will be choosing. The same goes for RPG games, just based off of our experiences with gaming with one another for so many years. For instance Shinzo is as much a Gal Fighter as I am but he tends to mix it up a bit more. If Shinzo’s main isn’t female there is a good chance his alt is. Shinzo mains Ryu on Street Fighter but based on which version you are playing he will either alt out Rose or Chun-Li. Batman333 is a power player, and he likes the freaks (guys who look like they would rape you in leather). This isn’t limited to his choices of playing Genan, Voldo, and Remi. In RPG’s he is almost always a Necromancer. I haven’t seen Batman333 ever main a female character outside of Bridgette in Guilty Gear… but isn’t Bridgette a dude? I kid, I kid.

Why and When Did I start Gal Fighting
The reason I started picking the girls was due to Fatal Fury 2 and Tomb Raider (the most commonly used excuse of a Gal Fighter). In Fatal Fury 2 I tried Terry and couldn’t link sh-t for combos using him. I could jab – burn knuckle or low jab – rising tackle but who likes 2-hit combos? I needed a bit more so as a joke I picked the busty fighter Mai Shiranui and fell instantly in love with her playstyle. Not only could I jump in combo like Street Fighter, but I could kachosen zone and follow up with a ninja elbow or a devastating FATAL. Mai became my first Gal Fighter and many more followed. Now when I see a new fighting game, I either look for a toon that favors me and my martial arts style (tall, kicker – tae-kwon do) or a speedy femme who looks cool and has a bit of style. For this reason people can call my character before I even see a game.

The Secret Weapon of a Gal Fighter
Like in life, people tend to underestimate small females. When I start a match with Yuri, Akari or Ibuki, the player with their monstrous Hugo, Alex or Chang Koehan will probably think “two hits and this bitch dies”. When in all reality they will fall victim to my “New Yuri Bop” or Ibuki’s “Kunai Dagger” rain. It’s the ultimate art of deception that puts and ace up my sleeve prior to even starting the match. Seasoned fighters know to respect the femmes since it isn’t the character you are playing, it’s the dude using her, but for the majority of new gamers, my gals deliver the boppage.
