One of the most attractive, alluring and memorable aspects of the Mass Effect universe is the universe itself. Which is ironic because it is the least hailed aspect of the game when in fact it is probably THE best aspect of the game. In two games Mass Effect has given us a world so unreal and glorious in it’s creativity and uniqueness that it pretty much a rivals that of George Lucas’s Star Wars. Whereas that isn’t a fair assumption based on the fact that Star Wars is the base that most things derive from, it is still a valid point in that the world of Mass Effect is pretty impressive.
Sure James Cameron brought along his epic movie Avatar, which introduced us to a Sci-Fi world of which we would love to see more of but to friends of Science Fiction that have not experienced Mass Effect, I would say to keep your eyes open because if this goes beyond the game it will blow you away.
Mass Effect is more than Commander Shepard, sure when you play the games you live out his saga in his task to save the universe from impending doom, but I am quite sure that any fan would love to play as any character within the Mass Effect world; whether it be on the crime-ridden city of Omega or on the Coruscant influenced Ilium. Hell even on Earth which has been a huge mystery up until now where we are given glimpses of it from the trailer leading up to Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect’s races while heavily humanoids are both beautiful and ugly in our perception but all of them equally interesting. We all want to know more about them beyond the numerous text within the games – from the sexy and alluring Asari female race to the hard and hyper masculine Krogans. Of course the cat-faced Turians and the many other races who all have their own individual politics going on leading to them loving and hating each other for whatever reason. It’s all a very complex tale that I believe needs to be told beyond the games.
Mass Effect The MMORPG?
Would a Mass Effect MMO be enough for me to satiate my hunger for this world? Not at all, because the genre of MMORPG has been on its way out for quite sometime now and the level of exposure a Mass Effect MMO would get would be quite limited – and as we all know MMO’s all have internal flaws that cannot be overcome. It may just leave a bad taste in some of our mouths.
BioWare is in the works of bringing out an MMORPG based on the well-known Star Wars franchise. This is going to be great, just by their track record alone (Kotor). But I will say that I would much rather them not go this route with Mass Effect. I would love to see a Mass Effect television series similar to SyFy’s Battlestar Galactica or a series of movies… Maybe a trilogy that will give us a bit more information on this wonderful world that BioWare has created.
What do you think? Do you crave more Mass Effect, or is the world within the game enough?
