Friday Flashback: Super Mario Bros

0

Super Mario Bros.Being born in the Mid seventies or eighties it is very likely you can remember playing Super Mario Bros. and you probably remember where you were when you did. My brother and I received our NES for our first communion; our father hooked it up and then played Mario for two hours before we could have a try. Any time you talk about Super Mario someone always sings the Super Mario song which is in the beginning of 1-1. Then someone always says; “Thank you Mario but the Princess is in another castle” by the time you find the castle the Princess is in, you wonder if this chic is really worth it, you almost want to tell Mario to find another broad and move on.

My brother and I played Mario for hours or rather I played Mario and my brothers watched for hours as I died numerous times trying to defeat King Koopa. Part dragon, part turtle, as far as I have been able to tell and if defeating King Koopa wasn’t enough it seemed my NES had it out for me as well. Getting all the way to the end -- for some reason my NES reset its self. It was almost like I had a time limit.

With Super Mario came numerous sequels, memorabilia and television shows. Even after all this you can never replace the original. Thinking back to games like this remind me of days drinking Kool-Aid and dripping twenty five cent Ice pops all over my shirt. Super Mario is just a simple game that if you don’t know the pattern at the end , will frustrate you till no end. Video games have evolved since then, but there is nothing like catching up with an old friend.
