Here is a game that took hours of my life, but I do not regret a moment of it; staying home from school doing the squat challenge and performing CPR on a NPR to get an item. The game really takes off when you meet Cid and jump in his airship, you could then travel anywhere in the world of Final Fantasy 7. A very exciting time in the game is when your materia maxes out and another piece of the same type is born. Another fun part is raising a Chocobo and giving it different types of greens. By racing your Chocobo’s and getting them to S class you are able to mate them and get the Gold Chocobo which lets you walk on the map at any terrain. An added bonus for the U.S. versions was the Ruby and Emerald Weapons which upset the Japanese fan boys. As far as Materia is concerned it was the best type of magic and skill system they have had on a Final Fantasy game as far as I am concerned.
Final Fantasy 7 and its characters made a big impact – it was the first Final Fantasy in years since the release of FF3 on the SNES. FF7 lead to movies such as Final Fantasy The Spirt Within and the FF7 movie Advent Children. Not only movies but action figures, art books and wall scrolls came from this game. Final Fantasy 7 also got me into anime, something I did not know about before FF7. Lastly this was my first turn based RPG since The Legend of Zelda was the only type of RPG I had played prior to this. I hope one day Squaresoft decides to remake FF7 with up-to-date graphics and sound quality. I would like to relive the excitement of Final Fantasy 7 all over again.
