I have had an excellent time with Street Fighter 4, hell beyond it being THE game to save the genre it has become as close to perfection in a fighting game than you would have expected.
Still I have this hate for watching old tournaments that I have played in simply because I tried competing way before I was any good at the game. The old videos are without focus tactics, they have ill-timed recovery attempts, scrubby ultra rebuttals… I can keep going. But we have to preserve the memory of our time on these games and Street Fighter 4 has been a blast!
The following set of videos is from a tournament we had for 3GK family to see who was the top dog in Street Fighter 4; It was a good time to be had by all and I wouldn’t call the matches terrible… just, unpolished if you will. Check it out – the archived Banea House tournament.
Batman333 (Balrog) vs Adrian (Dhalsim)
Rough match-up for Sim, I think Adrian couldn’t get anything started against the devastation of Rog.
Jay (Fei Long) vs Karisma (Zangief)
Clutch match of the century right here but it just doesn’t work without the visual of Karisma getting up and dancing when he nails the ultra.
Batman333 (Sagat) vs Tom Foolery (E.Honda)
Always bet on the fat man especially when Tom Foolery is at the helm. Batman333 thought that fancy focus games and Tiger Ultras would punk E.Honda but little did he know that one flying headbutt to the balls was waiting for him in the end.
Greg Dragon vs Shinzo Shoryuken (FINALS)
Watch this match only if you are wide awake and seriously that much into Street Fighter. When Frankie (Shinzo) and I throw down Chun vs Ryu it is always a long drawn out chess match of turtle proportions. Sigh… still it isn’t that bad considering that this was before either of us learned what a focus cancel was.
