PhilFest – 3GK Iron Fighter Competition 2009

The 3GodKings would like to thank everyone who came out to PhilFest and fought us for ownership of an original T-Shirt. Out of the 112 matches fought, 7 titans were able to topple the likes of Batman333′s Balrog, Shinzo’s Ryu and Greg Dragon’s Chun Li. Below this article are some images and names of the winners who secured a shirt from a God King.

Batman333 led the God King charge with 47 victories and 3 losses. His Balrog is a thing to be respected and unlike the other two hosts he spared no time in decimating anyone who dared to pick up a joypad or stick. Shinzo was champion of the hour losing only once and compiling 34 flawless wins with his Ryu. Greg Dragon’s Chun Li won 25 matches and lost 2 so it was a great day of Street Fighter 4 for 3GK and their challengers.

You just know that people love Street Fighter when they play in 90 degree weather at a dusty park on a CRT Television. The festival itself (outside of out Street Fighter tent) was lovely with it’s cultural garb, beautiful people and delicious food. If you are in the Tampa area this time next year, be sure to attend the PhilFest and experience it for yourself, it’s a lot of fun.

One thing that I found interesting were some of the better players wanted to fight Balrog and Chun Li to challenge themselves, being that they hardly get to play those characters online (come on folks diversify your selection already!). Then there was that one female who got underestimated until she busted a hell murder out of nowhere (take notes fellas… this could happen to you) and earned herself a tee-shirt. That was probably the loudest and most exciting match of the day, the people’s choice won that one.

kikkoken PhilFest 3GK Iron Fighter Competition 2009Being that I repped the Chun at the festivities, I asked Jay of bayandesign.com to bless me with a Kikoken fireball on my right cheek… in hopes that the gods of Gal Fighting would bless me. The result was awesome, although it was not lucky enough to keep me undefeated throughout the day. Aside from my petitioning the Game Gal God, The turnout was lovely on friday and saturday, sparse on sunday but still many fought. The competition was extremely positive and friendly as gamers hung around for hours to talk Street Fighter with the 3GK boys and try their hand at other opponents.

Chris Favis (The token Filipino-American of Bromance) even popped by the tent to try his hand at us and provided some comedy relief as he took on my Chun Li. Later on that night he did a comedy act for the rather lukewarm crowd but he and his fellows did offer some good challenge for us on Street Fighter. We really appreciated the positivity of everyone and it was a reflection of the love at the festival in general.

Special props goes to Hugsby who was able to topple two out of three kings, falling short to the ninja power of Shinzo Shoryuken… no worries, I can’t beat him either. Thanks again to everyone who attended and we look forward to seeing you again next year at the PhilFest to challenge you at whatever the new hotness is at the time.
