With all of the great fighting games out there that have gained momentum such as Super Street Fighter 4 AE, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and The King of Fighters XIII, where does a game like Persona 4 Arena fit in? Coming from an experienced and varied fighting game background, I wanted to take a look at P4A and really flush out who exactly this Japanese RPG-based fighter caters to. I will  preface this by saying that there are many good, well-meaning guys (and gals) in the fighting game community but there is one overbearing attitude that I wish would change… when we look at fighting game fans online they seem to be the worst fans of anything based on the way they treat their pros. If you are unfamiliar with this scene I will say that if you are a pro with massive accolades the kids who look up to... 

Nowadays when referring to “old school gamers” people mention names like Super NES and Playstation. Evolution 2012 World Championship has just ended in Las Vegas and man what a great showing this year. For those that are unfamiliar, EVO is one of the largest fighting game tournaments in the World. Players from different regions compete against one another in a no holds barred match using muscle memory, wit, and complete skills. I haven’t been online for a week or so but I am going to wager that after the disappointing defeat of Daigo’s Yun by Poongko’s god-tier Seth, I will not be seeing as many clone twins as I did prior to EVO. I’m just saying, don’t be mad at me, the finals had two old schoolers in Fei Long and dat bish Crimson Viper squaring off – who would have guessed! And while it wasn’t the most exciting... 

I came up in life loving, training and fighting in tournaments (martial arts) then wrestling and playing Football in High School at a decent level. One thing that the physical aspects of competition taught me was that winning feels great but the true beauty is in the experience itself. I love martial arts, so much so that if you dropped me on that island in Enter The Dragon I would be happier than a pig in… wait let me get... 

“Woodshedding” is a term that 3GK uses often to describe the act of grinding out a fighting game character until mastery. Being that we are all heavily into music, the term was copied from Jazz Musicians who coined the term from the old days when they would go into a woodshed, close the door and practice so as not to irritate their families (see Charlie Parker). So whenever a new game comes out I would say “hey...
