I came up in life loving, training and fighting in tournaments (martial arts) then wrestling and playing Football in High School at a decent level. One thing that the physical aspects of competition taught me was that winning feels great but the true beauty is in the experience itself. The Marvel vs Capcom series (after the original) doesn’t seem as if it belongs in the same genre as a Street Fighter game or even a Mortal Kombat one. Speaking from a strictly aesthetic perspective here, the reason I say this is because to the audience member that isn’t a player of the series it looks no different than a shooter. Think about it, you walk up to the cabinet in an arcade and you look over the crowd’s shoulder at the “champ”... 

While followers of SNK’s King of Fighter’s series may disagree with me on this, for 3GK The King of Fighters 97 was the apex of perfection for this series. Having played the games since my arcade face-offs with Gal Fighter© Team Europe (reppin dat Mai) in KoF ’94, I have always found the games to be one part silly story (omg Rugal’s throwing a partay let’s fight!) and another part Fatal Fury styled combat.
